The Wagamama visit

Ilse and Cassie came over today and they brought me this awesome bonsai tree. I'm very happy with it as I want to start growing them.

After coffee we went in to town where I took them out for lunch. We walked to the giant chess...

Because that's where wagamama is!

It got a bit busy soon after we ordered.

Ilse and cassie experienced eating with chop sticks. They did well, especially Cas.

Placido is still working there. He recognised me and we had a little chat. It was fantastic to see him again.

Ik ben nog steeds verbaasd over het lekkere eten; een bord vol en toch niet een volgevreten gevoel, zeg maar! Errug lekker daar!

You know you really gotta take care of that thing...

... bonsai trees used to be really expensive. I bet they aren't bankbreakingly so now...

... I don't know much about bonsai but that looks like a beautiful specimen...

Gledwood: When you buy a big one, much bigger then the one we gave Vince, you pay a lot of money. The bigger, the more expensive...

Ah bless dear, ol' Placido. We were patrons of Wagas right from the beginning, and after 1/2 a dozen visits he just bought the food out to us without taking our order:
Salmon Ramen with miso stock (for me)
Yaki Soba zonder kip (for my man)
Edamame
Side of pickles

*Heerlijk*

@Ilse: Next time you guys meet up in Ams, get Vincent to take you to Puccini on the Staalstraat. They make the most phenomenal pralines I've ever tasted. Try the "sereh" (lemongrass), fig-marzipan, and rhubarb flavors.

*sniff* I get teary-eyed just thinking about them...

Wish I could buy them by mail-order. I love Aus, but the quality of the chocolate sucks ass here.

@ Angeli: Placido was awesome. He totally recognised me. There *is* good chocolate in Australia by the way. At least in and around Adelaide there is. Don't give up! And if you want me to, I can send you some choccies you know but sending may make them yucky...

Thanks for the offer Vincent. I love the thought of getting a care package from my beloved Pucinni but I too would be scared that they'd be crushed. Ruud's cousin already went to the trouble of sending us Conimex pindasaus (we LOVE the "Maleise" variety)and the box arrived with all but 1 container smashed to smithereens.

I don't know whether Ruud or I cried more that day...

I haven't encountered chocolates here that come anywhere close to the quality of Puccini. The infamous Haigh's is grainy and has a crumbly texture that doesn't sit quite right on my palate and we have a Hahndorf's chocolatier right around the corner from where we live that make not particularly outstanding "couverture" pralines.

I love my chocolate, but after experiencing the divine decadence of Puccini, I don't think I'll ever find anything as good here. I'm a die-hard fan. :)
