Visiting Maastricht

Simone and I visited Maastricht today, a town in the deep South of The Netherlands. It's a nice town, the old part at least. The weather was great for walking around and doing some sightseeing and shopping and sitting at terraces.

Here's Simone at the old water mill that still powers an old bakery.

I sat down with some old town folk.

We took some piccies with them.

It was difficult saying goodbye ;-)

I took us to see donkey again. I like donkey a lot. Can't really walk around Maastricht without seeing donkey.

Hee-haw! I'm a cowboy!

<drum rollllllll> Little see through picture. We went into I don't know howmany shops but I ain't posting any photos of that :-P

Us.

Of course we took plenty of breaks. With pie and without pie. This one was with pie and beer ;-)

The church of Mary.

In the evening we had dinner at a very nice Greek restaurant. Had a lovely meal here. Recommendable!

Day off

I took a day off blogging. Not on purpose though. Just forgot to take any pictures. Sorry...

The bench

The old ferry dock is now gone. Like it was never there.

The 2 girls on the right asked me to take a photo of them sitting on that bench. The bench you see, was used in the movie "The fault in our stars" and is now a little bit famous... The bench was already famous with me since about 5 years ago though because I got a fuckin' panic attack whilst on the phone with someone. After that I only walked on the other side of the canal for over a year. Just looking at the bench could make me cry at the time. Funny how the mind works sometimes.

Today I was gonna have dinner and a couple of beers with my best friend Mic. We decided we needed some quality time together.

Ain't that quality? ;-)

The cake

There was cake at work. I resisted not.

In the evening I cleaned out my little garden and doorsteps a bit. Nice result if I may say so :-)

Kings day 2015

Today it's King's day! We used to have Queen's day, which sounds nicer I think, but now we have a king, it's changed to King's day. It's a fun day and a national day off. The weather was great and Simone, the kids and I went in to town. We parked close to the ferry and worked our way in to town from there.

Our destination was Vondelpark. It's insanely busy everywhere in town today but this park is family-orientated. You see less alcohol abuse here which makes for a nicer atmosphere.

Simone and I, photographed by Milan.

The canals were full with little boats.

There's a "free market" on today meaning anybody can sell whatever they want where they like. Loads of people empty their attic this way. Some are a bit more professional.

It gets very busy along these canals. Sometimes a little bit too busy...

But everything went well and we had a fun day.

Late afternoon we got back on our side of the water. We had walked for nearly six hours straight and the kids didn't complain once. That can only mean they were enjoying themselves which makes me very happy :-)

The iPad mini

I noticed a few bald spots on Snicker, Simone's pet rabbit. We took it to the vet today and apparently he has dirty itchy inside ears and tries to scratch from the outside which causes the bald patch. Poor Snickertje... Now he has a little cure that hopefully will get his ears clean.

I treated myself to an iPad mini today. Second generation.

It will allow me to look at more interesting things than TV while having coffee in the evening ;-)

I like :-)
