Another weekend gone...

Holland was playing Denmark in the 2010 Soccer World Cup. They won by 2-0. Lots of pubs had put a TV out and people sat outside watching.

And then the weekend was over. I brought Eileen back to the airport.

And as a bonus my throat feels like it's announcing the flu. Great...

The beach.

Today we went to the beach at Zandvoort. We went by bus which took about an hour but it was a lovely ride.

There were a few people around. The weather wasn't very inviting for sunbathers.

I went in to the water. It was COLD.

The seagulls seemed to have less trouble with the water temperature. They were fishing for little shrimps.

View along the beach.

Eileen.

There are little fish stands at the beach there. We bought some "kibbeling" and it was delicious!

The Frets in HQ.

Eileen and I had breakfast at the Vlaamsche broodhuys again this morning. They finally had croissants but they were disappointing. Somehow this place had gigantic potential but it's just not coming out. Why don't I have the money to start a place like this?...

My orchid is in full bloom now. It's beautiful.

Saw this bike outside a bike shop. The name of the bike is "Paddy wagon". Funny.

In the evening we went to Mulligans. A band called "The Frets" was playing there.

They walked through the pub quite a few times, they even played outside which was very funny.

With improvised background vocals from the audience.

Pat on the table.

Dave serenading Eileen ;-)

And Pat behind the bar.

This was the most entertaining band I have ever seen playing in Mulligans. It was all folk-ish but they still managed to play Cindy Lauper as well. I loved it. And they were genuinely very funny too. In a Robin Williams kind of way.

Every bread you take.

A very large Wisteria (also called "Blue rain" in The NL) on our way in to town.

Eileen and I had breakfast at a lovely breakfast place (Vlaamsch broodhuys - Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat)

It was completely full. The food we had was delicious but they had run out of croissants which was a great pity coz I really wanted one...

Their ad.

In the evening we went to one of Jon's Daiquiri parties. George (far right) was in charge of the fires. He likes being in charge of the fires ;-)

Marjolein in front of the lamp that was brought outside.

Queensday 2010

Walking towards town we walked past my new apartment. Close-by is this wall painting that is rather artistic. The writing is done in such a way that it seems like it's straight from the view point of where I was standing but it's actually painted on in perspective. Very clever.

Walking over the Rozengracht. Because the weather was really shit there weren't as many people as in other, sunny years.

BBQ-ing was a bit difficult.

Lots of smoke curtains here.

There were lots of boats out and about. Mostly with orange-dressed alcohol consuming people in them playing loud music. Good.

The narrow, red painted house is what many people believe to be the smallest house in AMsterdam but this is not true since this is only the BACK of another, bigger house! Many years ago I organised the first European #Cafebleu meeting in the house on it's right though.

The fun fair was on Dam square.

More boats at the "Munt".

Eileen in Mulligans sipping on an alcoholic beverage. We spent a lot of time in there and had Thai dinner in between. Time well spent!
