The Cricket Match

I've started collecting photo's of Dutch trains. My plan is to one day start to make then in n-scale (1:160).

Karin's cricket team had to play their league's final today. It was 38C...

Her team actually won! Congratulations Karin!

Afterwards we were desperate for lunch as it was 14:30 and both Nic and I only had breakfast until then. We couldn't resist dessert...

The Central Market

Today we shopped at the Central market -really- fast. Here you can see Nicole (look out for the hat!) rushing past the stalls...

Nicole has a fixed route, well, kind of. This is always the first stop.

It's a little asian grocery store.

They have quality for not too many dollars.

On our way through the market we passed this stand with huge water melons. I don't like water melons myself but they sure are impressive!

The view down one of the "streets". There are about 5 of these.

We got some fresh made juice.

An older building on the way home.

It was busy.

This is a street with beautiful trees.

The King of Bowls

Today, in the morning, we drove to another chat with another recruiter. As long as no job is secured I'm gonna keep looking out for work.

When we came home after the interview it was so hot outside that we let Mason into our flat. He showed an interest in a really thick electronics book. I reckon he's gonna be a professor one day.

Mason enjoyed the nice air conditioned coolness of our flat.

Someone else, that we were unaware of until I moved a pair of shoes, was also enjoying the coolness of our flat: A little baby lizard/salamander/gecko came from underneath the cupboard. You can't see much detail coz my camera stinks but it was really cool to see. It had little toes and very big eyes.

In the afternoon I had a second interview with another possible employer. This is the view from the waiting room.

In the evening it was time for bowls again. because it was the last night they had added a few funny rules. This way I became skipper (last team member to bowl) on end 4. And I had my best bowl ever. The opponent team made a beautiful bowl which landed on the left of the Jack (aka "Kiddie"). But then mine landed right on it's front door and ended up leaning on it! Can't beat it. I was very proud. (I wasn't very proud when we had to bowl left handed though...)

The uber meat balls

Because we didn't really have any food left we had a brunch in the mall. This is a sandwich shop that I'm quite fond of.

Nicole at Woolies.

During walking Mason I sometimes encountered a bit of shade from the clouds.

Not that there were that many, it turned out to be another bloody hot (38C) day...

Some dogs love to stick their heads in plants.

At home we had to deal with the Dutch tax office, hopefully for the last time. Filling in the required pages took about 3 hours. Not too bad. I did have to make an additional phone call in the evening though to ask something.

My bottle of coke was also sweating in todays heat.

Job hunting continues. Send out my resume to 3 other recruiters today.

In the evening weird clouds formed above us.

It also smelled of smoke because the bush is on fire about 50 kilometers from here. Actually where we were driving in the hills the other day i believe. Or close anyway.

Nic is making some meatballs for tomorrow night. it's the last lawn bowls evening for now and we're gonna have a party!

I need work...

Mason doing a sniff...

... and run.

Sniff and...

Eh, a beautiful bark on this tree.

The tree made a nice cool shadow.

The fancy dinner

Tonight we went on a fancy smenzy dinner with Karin and Gavin at Semaphore. Here Sir Gavin is munching on some fish and chip.

Karin was on a diet of proteines today so she had a coke.

Nicole was enjoying the nuclear explosions across the street.

The Semaphore Hotel. That's not where we ate, we were next door at Cafe Primo.

I drove all the way home. This included doing a hillstart REVERSE out of a 60 degree angle parking, multi-lane driving and speeds up to 70Km/h! Everything went really well. Another 35 minutes in my log book :-)

The drive

Winter is coming. Leaves are falling from the trees...

... except it was 40C today...

Nicole and I went for a drive through the hills again to check out the different little towns. We had a brief stop in Lobethal. This is the main street.

And this is also the main street but the other way. Lobethal is not what we're looking for we decided.

We drove past Melba's chocolate factory which is also a museum, well, kind of. We went in and fair enough, you can see a bit of the manufacturing but not much. It's more a really big chocolate shop. We didn't buy anything though, we were strong! ;-)

Outside there was an old steam engine displayed.

Made in Adelaide.

Driving around you drive past a few lakes. Most lakes are very empty. They may still look beautiful but they're not what I saw 7 years ago...

It's dry here.

We drove in the direction of Basket Range and there are an incredible amount of fruit trees there. It was an amazing sight. Contrary to popular belief, the apples apparently DO grow on branches that go UP ;-)

Want...

At home 2 pretty doves said hello. Really they wanted food but I'm in denial. These 2 actually had their nest with 2 babies raided 3 nights ago. They have to start over again now...

In the evening I started sorting my collection of electronic components. Stupid as I was I must have thrown a thousand euro's worth of components away in preparation for our move. Oh well...
