We're getting a King!

Had to go to the hospital today to see a throat-doctor. Too complicated to explain but the outcome is that I'm gonna get a CT scan of my nasal cavities.

In town I spotted this "Space invader".

Shocking news: The Queen unexpectedly announced she's stepping down in 2 months to make way for her son. The Netherlands will have a King again!

I went to Mic's folks to have dinner with mic and his family. Later at Mic's place we worked on the list of people who needed to be informed about Nantko's death. I took my brand new drill home. Very nice drill :-)

The train repairs

Early morning I went to check in at Cake loves coffee to see how things were going and they were going well.

I had a chat with mom and dad on Skype. They're coming over on Sunday.

Then I went out again to get little lights for in a model train locomotive. In the shop they were selling a tiny milling machine and when I started a little chat about it with the shop keeper she gave me this brochure which is very interesting because apparently there is a whole range of "mini" equipment for sale that I would loooooove to have in my workshop!

I also ran into this... whatever it is. Maybe the person played too much WoW and started making shoulder pads....

At home I wanted to repair a model train that I bought as a defect. It was a mess indeed. Someone has been poking around in it with a soldering iron.

This was the worst... The back metal strip that's acting as a spring and relays the power from the wheel to the chassis has been replaced by a stiff piece of copper wire and attached with a huge blob of solder.

I replaced it with a new spring I cut off another un-used part and soldered it on very nice.

After I put the train back together it was working again :-)

Fruit and metal work

Early morning showed some promising weather. It was nice and sunny. Unfortunately, no clouds during winter means quite cold temperatures during the night.

When people in Adelaide go to work on a bicycle, they think they're actually in the Tour de France. If you like seeing lycra filled crack, this is the place to be!

A few weeks ago I told my manager about putting a fruit bowl in the office. He thought it was a good idea and today I was pleasantly surprised when I came in. I am very pleased. Easy reachable fruit. No need to go out and buy a Snickers bar anymore :-)

Of course it doesn't really help if someone puts left over cup cakes with 1 packet of sugar on each one next to it...

While in the bus on my way home I for some reason took this photo. There is something about it that I like a lot, even though it's an ugly part of the city.

Speaking of ugly, check out this building (not the car in front!).

I got off at Northpark shopping mall to do some groceries. I went to Coles instead of Woolies for a change.

When I came out it was still light. The days are getting longer again, thank god. The setting sun turned the clouds nice and pinkish.

This is the road I have to cross by foot. You can only do it when the cars get a red light. And even then you're not sure of your life...

As I walked home I passed this block of land. Someone took down the house that was on there, split the block in two and is now selling the two halves. The size of one half must be 8x20 metres at most. It's nothing! One half was already sold.

I noticed Mr. Clarke's shop. There's little doubt as to what he sells...

At home my crazy DIY personality took over.

It made me drill holes in an alumiNIUM heat sink that is required for my power supply.

While Nicole was filling in forms for our health insurance...

I was smoothening the edges of the holes and putting screw thread in some of them.

The powerrrrrrrrrr chef

Early morning Tony was cutting some delicious pigs fat. This is the bit of pig that sits right under the skin. You know, the cute pink of the piggy. Underneath the pink the piggy is white. The layer of fat is about 3 cm thick and when cut in small cubes and then fried and what not aparently becomes a yummy snack.

I'm not convinced.

Now. I can hear you thinking, shees, what barbarians, what age do they live in to be eating pigs fat (eventhough just as a crispy little snack). It's not that bad I think because at least they'll eat the whole pig and not throw half away. And did you know that the people living close to or on the northpole will happily eat fat every day? It's their only source of fat you see.

Nic's mum was doing some power-cooking. I'm unaware of the results to be honest.

Outside the sun was shining. Surprise!

My to-become bonsais were all still there. They actually got a little friend today but I forgot to photograph it. Maybe tomorrow.

And then it was off in the car again. We didn't get the wood we needed. Also we didn't get the part for repairing our flyscreen-door. But I did buy myself a new cordless drill/driver and I'm very happy with it. It was only $98 which is about €60.

We drove and we drove and we drove. I'm actually getting a bit sick of driving around for bloody errands now but we have to get more stuff like bedlinen and pillowcases still...

This is becoming a pretty common view for me. Hmmm.
