Hugs and kisses

The mother dove, who is currently sitting on a new set of eggs, having breakfast with one of her other kids. But the kids are now able to find food themselves and mom absolutely doesn't care about them anymore and actually starting pecking at it when she thought it was stealing too much of her food. It's funny how things go in nature.

On the way to Office Works this morning we saw a P plate truck driver.

At Office Works we bought new ink cartridges and a new chair for Nicole. Her old one may be bad for her back so we're going to try this one. It's a rather luxurious leather model (that behaved very unfriendly when putting it together.).

After this we went to a branch of my bank in Norwood that was open on Saturday morning where I took care of some business. We also went to the supermarket there and we saw this little band playing.

Then we dumped our shopping at home and went past Jaycar and Bunnings.

On the way home we drove behind this car with a 'XOXOX' plate. That's a lot of hugs and kisses, the girl who was driving it must've been extremely friendly.

My Jaycar and Bunnings loot for today: Black stuff to paint certain fountain parts with. Some screws. A set of imperial taps to fix the holes in Nicole's chair that were tapped crappy, a little fountain pump, another container for parts and a magazine full of car ads to keep up to speed with current prices.

The cookies/biscuits

On our way to work, we passed these two ladies. One of them was wearing nice evening wear, at 7:55 in the morning. You can't see it very well, but the photo is nice nevertheless.

This is what I drink during lunch: Nippy's. South Australian (in Adelaide, actually) produced orange juice made from (I believe) Australian oranges. Read the funny story about how they started. The suburb of Kilburn is next door of us. This is THE best orange juice in the world. The only fresher juice is home made. And yeah, it's addictive.

The Christmas tree is now finished and Santa has left lots of pressies for me. Unfortunately I'm only allowed to look at them...

On the way back to work I donated a little bit of money to a charity to fight poverty. They gave me a sticker.

In the afternoon I found these cookies in the kitchen. I think my boss' wife has been baking again with the kids. Apparently in Australia, 'cookies' do not exist. They are called 'biscuits'. 'Cooky' is American. In Dutch however we have both and they actually refer to different baked products. The 'biscuits' in Dutch are very plain, always crisp, and very milky. Dutch 'cookies' however are the more flavoursome type. They can also contain things like chocolate chips or raisins etc.

After work we went to Henley Beach square for dinner. The best Thai restaurant in town is here I think. If I still had my restaurant critique site, this is how I'd rate it (scale 1-10 where 10 is best):
- Food: 9
- Service: 8.5
- Hygiene: 8
- Atmosphere: 8.5
- Value for money: 8.5

Do your self a favour and go there. It's called "Thai Orchid".

Afterwards we walked up the jetty a bit.

I love the beach. It's such a cool place. It's the end of the world, land turns in to water and there is beautiful fresh wind.

The jetty.

Not just peanut butter...

Waiting for the lights when crossing Grenfell street during lunch. They go quicker during peak hour.

A sewer lid. I thought it looked cool.

After work I walked through the Park to Nicole.

The attacker ducks were there in full force but because they don't have to protect their babies anymore they will now avoid a fight. Otherwise they'd kick your ass you know...

Nicole enjoying her self.

When I came home there was a surprise for me.

My Dutch peanut butter had arrived. Two jars for only A$50.

Hmmmmmmm.

We won!

This is part of the church I lunch next to sometimes.

After work I took the bus down to Modbury.

It was almost 17:30.

Other people came in. They have cool ticket machines here.

And more people still.

We finally had a real victory again at lawn bowl. A pretty good one too but I already can't remember the score. And I was the one keeping it, how sad...

I like my sandwich

Lunch view.

My lunch. The girls I buy this from make THE best baguettes. Today it was actually still warm which made the cheese all soft. This sandwich has Swiss cheese, ham and pine nuts.

I walked through the park again on my way to Nicole.

The roads you have to cross here are often a fair bit wider than in The NL.

The flying snowman

One of our cacti has a big-ass flower at the moment. Very pretty.

The Christmas tree is all done. It just needs to get hooked up to the electricity now.

The fountain was off, AGAIN. I don't know why it's off so often. Anyway, there was a ducky swimming in it. It swam towards me but when it realised my phone was not food it swam off again...

After work I walked to PJ's. Rundle mall is full of Christmas decorations.

Like the big Santa...

... and the flying snowman.

When I got to PJ's it was still quiet inside.

The terrace was full though.

Pretty soon Nicole came in as well.

Half an hour later it actually started filling up a bit. It's funny how that goes.

When we left we saw this bicycle with a little engine. There a few of these driving around the city. I think it's a little bit lame...

And tonight, on the first day of summer, the moon makes a smiley face : )

Volksfest 2008

10 AM, tennis. That will have to be a little bit later next time. 10:30 at least.

I lost the first set ;-)

Working hard on the second set.

We played two sets: 3-6 and 6-1. It was very nice to play again. Our levels of play are pretty equal which makes for an interesting game. We had a couple of excellent and very exciting runs. Next time I should wear a hat though coz I felt a small sun-stroke a few hours later.

After a shower and some lunch we drove down to Port Adelaide where Volksfest 2008 was being held. It's one of Adelaide's oldest neighbourhoods.

Railway Hotel.

Building with my name on it.

Royal Arms Hotel.

Volksfest is a gathering of Volkswagen enthusiasts. If you own one, you can bring it. Naturally there are tons of Beetles...

... but there are also those that make you feel like you're in 1980 Germany.

VW 1500

Herbie is there of course (click for BIG version).

This is the silver version of the New Beetle. I do really like the silver but the stupids won't sell it with a beige interior... Apparently the fashion police doesn't allow silver and beige to be combined. Pfff, what do they know?

I think this is the most common Beetle behind there is.

Less common.

Original. These ones are hard to get I believe.

And here's a red New Beetle like the one we saw yesterday, although yesterdays one was a convertible. I do like the red. I want to turn it in to a fire engine. I think it would look the bomb with blue lights and a big fat white number on it.

A beautiful old convertible.

And then...

... we saw this beauty. This was without a doubt THE most beautifully restored Volkswagen on the show. Click for a BIG version!

A bit of Volkswagen engine. Very simple and reliable design. Click for a BIG version.

This is a Volkswagen "Karman Ghia". I had to look this up on Wikipedia.

They had a decent amount of cars. It was only in one street but it was very nice to see all these oldies.

This one is also restored really nice. Click for BIG version.

Another Karman Ghia. Click for BIG version.

Volkswagens everywhere.

And a tree.

Another very nice restored van.
