The compression tests

This morning parts of open waters were frozen over! Winter is coming!

I went to my Mustang to finish the remaining 7 compression tests. It went well and I didn't run into any serious issues.

These are the results. The small number is pressure in bar, the high number in psi.

I'm not sure what to think of these numbers. 9.5 and 7.8 are a little too far apart for my liking. Now what?

3x Silver

Silver is growing fast. He's probably in cat puberty now. Trying all kinds of things he's not allowed to and all that stuff. He's still an incredibly sweet cat though and very cuddly most of the time.

I took some photos when he was sitting with me:

The makeshift workbench

I went to my Mustang tonight to change the outside of the compression tester's adapter hexagonal instead of round. To do so I need a workbench which I didn't have so I made one first.

Then I got the most basic of tolls: a file, and started working.

The end result is good. This I can remove from the engine block without hassle :-)

COTM 11/16

My Mustang became Car of the month for November 2016 on 7173Mustangs.com!

I'm very proud of this. My car will be featured on next year's calendar as well which is awesome :-)

The detour

It was a crispy morning, it looked like a perfect start of the day.

Unfortunately that all went down hill really fast as we approached the Coen tunnel when we heard about a pretty bad accident blocking our side of the tunnel and that we were to take a different route. Since that involves another tunnel we had a 45 minute detour through the centre of Amsterdam.

O H   J O Y.

The good thing was that I actually managed to sit in my favourite spot. So I just enjoyed the ride.
I got to work almost an hour late but I did have a very nice day at work in the end :-)

The compression test

I went to my Mustang this morning to make good use of the day and run a compression test on each cylinder. I started by removing all the spark plugs. I noticed that the ones on the "colder" side were coloured a bit darker. I'm not sure if this means anything really...

I decided to start my tests on the hardest to reach cylinder which is number 8 and is closest to the driver. It's hard to reach because the powersteering lines and the brake booster are in that area as well. I hooked up the equipment and cranked the engine (without ignition and with WOT - Wide Open Throttle). Cylinder number 8 compressed to 9 bar (130psi). So that was the good part...

The bad part is that I was unable to get out the part which is left in this picture and after one hour of trying I gave up and left the car otherwise I'd have had to throw something ;-)

So now I have to figure out how to get this removed so I can test the other 7 cylinders. I left very frustrated because I had planned to do this, I made the time for it and finally I would know the state of my engine! But I still do not :-(

To be continued...

At home we watched AZ - Ajax which was fun. Very energetic game, fun to watch. It ended 2-2...
