The engine tests

I met Mic at my car around 11 this morning. I had a few things I needed to do and some of it I couldn't do by myself.

The battery had been on the charger for most of the week so it was nice and full again. So I put it back in the car. Because during my last visit I fixed the positive battery cable but only had an empty battery then, I wanted to see if that helped with the starting troubles. I tried 3 times and the full battery definately made a difference but it didn't start.

So I started the checks.

1: See if fuel sprayed in to the carb when pressing the gas pedal (with the engine off). It did. Good.

2: Check for sparks. We took off cables off the first plug on either side, grounded them and started the engine. We had a spark which was good but also the engine started running! Even better!

3: The third check was to see if it would run with the choke enabled. We put the wires back and I started the car again. It started running smoothly, and on old fuel too! So I was very pleased :-)

We made a little movie:

4: The final thing to check was the oil level in the tranny. I suspected it was low. I checked with the engine running and there was no oil on the dipstick. That can explain why the gearbox doesn't shift well at the moment. Eventually it will shift but not as quick as it should.

So Now I need this oil...

After this very fruitful visit I thanked Mic and went home to Simone's place. With not much to do, I went for a run. It went well.
