The buildings

Yesterday, on Kees' blog he asked us to take a picture of the Adelaide railway station in the city. So today Nicole and I went for a drive (good for me) into town to take the photo. We also took some others.

So here you go, Kees. This is the Adelaide railway station photographed from almost the same spot I reckon. It made sense coz this was the only spot where there were no trees in the way. It also houses the Adelaide casino these days called Sky city.

Backstreets in Adelaide's city can give beautiful views on old buildings.

An old warehouse type building.

Nice old-style red brick work.

We also drove to Largs Bay, a very old suburb of Adelaide. Not for fish and chips this time but to check out an organic food shop. I photographed this building.

This was the view down the street. The railway line shown in the photo's I posted yesterday (showing a train riding up the jetty) went through this street.

The station hasn't changed much since the 1940s. I was under the impression that Adelaide was in constant flux and buildings were torn down as soon as they were built.

@ Kees: Where do you get those crazy thoughts? Adelaide (not just the city) is FULL of beautiful old heritage buildings that aren't even allowed to be taken down. A lot of buildings are still THE original buildings, like the railway station. I recently stumbled upon this site where someone has an incredible wealth of photographic information about South Australia (which includes Adelaide). Very interesting.

KEES - There are a lot of horrid, "modern" buildings, especially those built in the 60's and 70's, but in between is a wealth of surviving old Victorian architecture. We'll have to go on a small photography mission one day soon and take pictures of the post office and town hall, art gallery, university, museum, library and all the stuff in between. There are quite a few gems to be found amongst the concrete.
