The holiday

The drop-off is well arranged already showing you on the outside where the check-in desks are for the respective airlines.

Adelaide airport is very new. It was finished a couple of years ago. It used to be something that came close to a shed. But they are now ranked as the world's second best airport. I must say it is well designed.

Christmas also seems to have arrived at the airport.

Nicole was also quite impressed.

You used to walk over the tarmac to and from the aircraft. Now we can all go through the slurfies!

The flight to Perth was uneventfull apart from some turbulence when flying over the Perth hills. Nothing to worry about.


Opposed to all our flights from Europe to Malaysia and Australia, the flight to Perth was luckily a day flight. I really don't like night flights you see.

Birgitte was there to pick us up. She was was rather excited to see us and we were very happy to see her again too!

We walked outside just as Maurice was being kicked off the parking lot by someone who aparently had some authority over parked cars there. Thankfully we were allowed to hop onboard and we soon arrived at their little cottage.

They have a lovely veranda where we first had a drink and exchanged the latest gossip.

In the evening we walked down to the Balmoral pub for a few drinks and some food. I skipped the airplane food as the smell alone makes me vomit almost so I was rather hungry. There was another beautifull jacaranda tree along the way. These beauty's are everywhere almost.

The holiday announcement

Dear reader,

After all this immigrating (which is hard work!) Nicole and I are going on a small holiday to Perth where we will be visitting out friends Birgitte and Maurice.

We are flying out there today and we'll return on monday evening local Adelaide time.

We're going to visit friends in Perth tomorrow and there is a possibility that we will actually go snorkeling. I needed new swimminggear for that so we went to Target again. Since I'm not posting pictures of myself in swimminggear I'll post a picture of the gigantic neon logo of "Foodland" which is close by in the same mall.

After this we went into town and bought a small digital camera that can go under water for up to 3 metres. Rumour has it that there is a little reef close to Perth that we might visit so let's hope it works well. After all this shopping we were hunry and I ate pizza.

The office

The morning was horrible. Nic wanted to pick up her medicare card finally but last time they forgot to tell her what extra proof she needs so we left with nothing. Very frustrating.

It's a nice office though, not too much of a line-up, just that sometimes people are a bit incompetent you know. Oh well, we should be used to it after living in The Netherlands.

This here is my cowjuice supplier. Yuummmm.

At Harris Scarfe it's also Christmas now. It's an explosion of Christmas in town now.

We finally managed to get our beds today. Unfortunately we had to drive home first to get money because in this country the bank only lets you pin $1000 in the shops. So even if I had $5000, I couldn't use it freely whenever I wanted. I was rather disappointed to find this out.

The new Prime Minister

We went to Bunnings today, a giant DIY (Do It Yourself) store.

It was big alright...

We also went back to a bed shop where we thought we had seen the bed that we want but can't afford. We actually went to make a picture so we can make it ourselves. Stupid enough the bed looked different than we thought so we didn't bother photographing it. Luckily enough Chinatown was close where we had a very nice Thai lunch.

Another day, another license plate.

Today was election day over here. Finally John Howard (Liberals) was dismissed as Prime Minister and the people of Australia have chosen Kevin Rudd (Labor) as their new one. He seems like an OK guy and has many good ideas. Let's hope he executes them as well.

This time we went to Rundle mall and Rundle street. Christmas is coming and we shall know it!

We went into the Borders bookshop. We had a non-alcoholic beverage in their little cafe.

One of the things I had been looking forward to. Where The Netherlands seem a 3rd world country when it comes to smoking regulations, Australia knows smoking regulations for many, many years now. And recently they made it even more pleasant for the non-smoking majority.

We saw a shop called "Chocolat". How can we not go in? I couldn't actually finish my "Harry Hazelnut".

I'm buying more and more software these days in an attempt to become a 100% legal software user. This MS Office bundle cost AUD 228. That's about EUR 150 which is not much for what you get.
